Arturo Villabela Araujo, ingeniero y miembro de la Comisión Política del MIR, fue ejecutado en un falso enfrentamiento por agentes de la CNI al interior de la casa de seguridad que compartía con Sergio Peña Díaz y Lucía Vergara, quienes al igual que Villabela habían reingresado al país de forma clandestina en el marco de la Operación Retorno. Los hechos ocurrieron el 7 de septiembre de 1983 en calle Fuenteovejuna 1330, comuna de Las Condes.
